About Falls and Emergencies

Q. How many people actually fall?

A: According to the most recently available data, more than one third of adults 65 and older fall each year in the United States. In 2005, 15,800 people 65 and older died from fall-related injuries; and according to the Centers for Disease Control, about 1.8 million people 65 and older were treated in 2005 in emergency departments for nonfatal injuries from falls, and more than 433,000 of these patients were hospitalized.

Q: What are the main consequences of falls?

A: Up to 30% of people who fall suffer moderate to severe injuries, including bruises and head traumas that can lead to death for some. And, the fear of falling can lead many to stay in bed, inhibiting mobility and physical fitness.

Q: Why should consumers pay for the same service that 911 provides?

A: To start, a phone is necessary for 911. Our med alert services allow the user to speak through the pendant; there’s no need to worry about the phone being out of reach or misplaced (and for shower emergencies, our pendants are waterproof). Plus, the quick-thinking and priority response that our operators provide cannot be underestimated.

Plus, you may not wish for an ambulance. If you simply need a caregiver, family member, or neighbor to come check in, our operators can contact them immediately.

About Your Service

Q: Who answers when I press the button?

A:Your call is answered by a trained, bi-lingual Emergency Medical Technician. He/she will stay on the line until help arrives.

Q: Will I pay for long distance calls?

A: No. The system dials a pre-programmed, toll-free number.

Q: How many times can I press the emergency button on the pendant?

A: You can press the emergency button as needed; we will never refuse your call. Ask about our plan levels to determine how many emergency calls are allowed with no extra fee.

Q: What if I press the button by mistake?

A: Our pendants feature a convenient cancel button.

Q: What if I cannot speak?

A: If you are not able to speak, the operator will dispatch an ambulance right away

About the Product

Q: What is your warranty?

A: Our Medical Alert by Post Alarm offers a limited lifetime warranty against malfunctioning.

Q: Can I take the service with me when I move?

A: Yes! Your equipment is programmed to work from any working phone line, so we know who you are when you call. However, we need your new address in order to get your help to where you are.

Q: Will the system work if I lose power in my home?

A: Yes, if you use a regular phone land line.

Q: What is the range of service?

A: Your medical alert system will work for up to 600 feet in and around the base station installed in your home.

Getting Your Help

Q: What if I don’t need an ambulance?

A: At sign-up, you can provide us with the names and contact information of all caregivers, family members, and neighbors you authorize to come in the event of an emergency. We will dispatch whomever you request when you push the button. If you wish for an ambulance or emergency personnel, we will contact them immediately.

Q: How will emergency personnel enter if the door is locked?

A: We recommend an external lockbox that holds a key to your door. These are available at most hardware stores. Our operators will give the personnel the combination to your lockbox. If no key is available, they will break in just as if you had called 911. Purchase one online now (Link to Order Page where lockbox is located).

Q: Who pays for the damage if the emergency personnel break a door to come in?

A: Emergency personnel are allowed to break in to help you, and cannot be held responsible for damages. For that reason, we recommend the lock box.
